April’s challenge

For the National Year of Reading 2026, we are setting a new challenge each month. The April challenge was a picture quiz, imagining what would happen if the illustrator of a book misheard or misunderstood the title and inadvertently used an animal in the title instead.

Entrants were asked to unravel the clues and guess each book – giving the fake ‘Critter’ title (which should identify the animal), then state the book’s correct ‘Literary’ title and author.

The winners

A lot of fun was had trying to guess the correct answers (and groaning at the puns!). The winning entry was submitted by Adam T – well done to him!

Runners up are Judith C and Kay P, with Honorary Mentions to Helen C, Laura K  and Liz S.

Here are the clues accompanied by their respective books, giving both the Critter Title and the Literary Answer.
