We’re hiring!

The Friends of Jesmond Library are seeking a writer in residence to mark the 10th anniversary in September 2023 of the library becoming entirely volunteer run. The writer will work with as many residents of Jesmond as possible, as well as creating their own work, to produce a publication celebrating Jesmond Library in particular and the value of libraries in general.

The residency will take place over six months September 2023 – March 2024 and will culminate in an event to launch the publication and share it with the local community.

10th Anniversary Celebrations

Other events to celebrate the 10th anniversary include a book festival and an exhibition.

The objective of the residency is to inspire local people to write about the library, their memories of it and what it means to them, to encourage and support emerging writers in the area, and to create a permanent piece of work to celebrate the library.

The fee for the residency will be £6000 over six months. There is a further budget to cover expenses, materials, publication and event costs.

Applications

We welcome applications from writers in poetry or prose. They should have been published in a print medium and have experience of working with children and running community workshops.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact  enquiries@jesmondlibrary.org to request a detailed brief.

Applications by August 31. Interviews will be held early in September and the residency is planned to start on September 25 if possible but the start date may be flexible.
