Let there be… LIGHT!

Jesmond Library has launched its 2024 Creative Writing Competition. This year the theme is ‘Light’. You can interpret that how you like.

Here are some ideas, but you can use the theme in any way: Light in contrast to darkness; Light in weight as opposed to something heavy; Light or trivial compared to serious; Day Light; Moon Light; Star Light; Lightyears – let your imagination take you where it will.

Choose an interesting title to help your entry stand out.

We are very excited to see what you come up with.

Categories, formats and word counts

You can send us short stories, or flash fiction, or scripts, or poems, or lyrics, etc. Your entry can be handwritten or typed or sent by email.
There is no minimum length, but there is a maximum word count. These vary by age. Full details are shown on the entry form.

All entrants will retain copyright to their entries.

Entry fee

The cost is £3 per entry, and all the money goes to support Jesmond Library. By entering the competition you will be helping keep the library open.
Payment can be cash, cheque or card at the Library, or online using the bank details on the application form. If paying online please use ref CW24-(your name) to help us tally the fee to your entry. It would be helpful if you can also send an email at the same time.
Your name should be on the form and/or covering email but please do not write your name on the actual entry as they will be judged anonymously.

Closing date

Please let us have your entries by midnight on 4th June 2024.
