While the city sleeps…
… Jesmond keeps busy!
Even though we’re not allowed to reopen the Library just yet, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on.
Book Group
The library book group will next meet (online) on Wednesday 3 June at 7:00 pm, to discuss “The Return” by Victoria Hislop. If you would like to join the meeting please email events@jesmondlibrary.org to receive a Zoom invitation.
Lockdown Creative Writing Challenge
Last week we launched our free to enter Writing Challenge starting with Lockdown Limericks. You didn’t disappoint! We received many brilliant limericks over the last week, including this by the Wynne Family:
There was a man from Frome
COVID forced him to work from home
His wife drove him batty
The kids made him ratty
The result: no more hair left to comb
Week 2 Challenge – “While the city slept…”
Further limerick submissions are still welcome, but here is your next writing challenge.
We have all seen the photos. Cities across the world have been sitting empty, busy thoroughfares stretch still and silent while people shelter indoors. Goats invaded Llandudno. Northumbria Police spotted a lone deer wandering through the eerily silent Bigg Market!
But what else is happening behind the lockdown scenes? Write on the prompt: ‘While the city slept…’
We welcome submissions from all ages and all genres. From fiction to non-fiction, fantasy to diary entry. We ask only that you not reuse a previous story – we want to hear your lockdown literature.
There is no word limit. Multiple entries allowed. No entry fee. As always, submit entries to events@jesmondlibrary.org and please specify whether we can share your entry on social media.
Click & Collect
Our Click and Collect (or Deliver) Library Service is proving very popular. Find out more about how to order your books here.
Thursday Evening Talks
Our ever popular Thursday Evening Talks are continuing via Zoom. Next up: “Imagining a post COVID future in Jesmond” with Tony Waterston on 11th June at 6.30.
If you would like an invitation to the talk, or have any queries, email events@jesmondlibrary.org
Children’s Book Reviews
Jesmond Festival has been cancelled this year, but the Children’s Book Review Competition organised jointly by the Festival Committee with Jesmond Library and Oxfam Books is still running.
The deadline has been extended to 30th June and younger children can now enter.
