National Poetry Day will be celebrated on Thursday 3rd October. The theme chosen for this year is ‘truth’.

What is true is we have some fantastic poetry books on our shelves at Jesmond Library. They include poetry of all styles and from all periods, ranging from Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century through to the 21st century and the current Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage.

There are collections from individual poets as well as anthologies.

The children’s section boasts some excellent poetry books.

What is also true is we would love for you to borrow our poetry books. Call into the library and browse our collection.

If you are a lover of poetry, you may be interested in the Poetry Group which meets on the last Thursday of each month.

If you want to find out more about the poems of Seamus Heaney, join Pamela Woof’s excellent series of talks which begin on Monday 7th October.

And if you are a writer of poetry, why not enter our Annual Creative Writing Competition ?
