Read to the Beat!

This summer, Jesmond Library will be offering the Reading Agency’s  Summer Reading Challenge 2026: Read to the Beat. We have planned an exciting launch event on Saturday 11 July at 12 noon, featuring local storyteller Chris Bostock – with music, stories and origami.

Challenge and Mini-Challenge

The Reading Challenge for children 4 – 12 years old, and the Mini-Challenge for pre-school children, both run from 11 July to 05 September and include a free sticker book for every child that signs up – with stickers, medals and certificates as rewards.

(If you are 13 and over, don’t worry – you don’t need to miss out. Ask the Volunteers for a Summer Reading Passport – see where your reading journey will take you!)

New books, activity sheets, events

There is a specially curated Read to the Beat collection along with a great selection of other new books to choose from, all available from Saturday 11 July.

Read to the Beat colouring and activity sheets will also be available throughout the summer holidays, and watch out for other events.

Visit the Library to sign up, get your special collector folder, and start reading. When you finish a book, come back to collect a sticker, then choose your next read.
