A special programme of events focusing on the Climate Emergency will be taking place over the next few weeks, jointly planned by the Friends of Jesmond Library, the Women’s Institute and Extinction Rebellion.

An exhibition and display of relevant information and a special book selection will be on display during library opening hours until 8th November.

If you want to read more about Climate Change we have a fine selection of books on the subject, including Greta Thunberg’s book “No one is too small to make a difference”. Do come and check them out.

And finally you may be aware that we have begun a project to replace the ground floor windows which are badly corroded and to instal double glazed units. At its simplest this will reduce our heating bills and keep the Library warmer and weather-tight, but by so doing will go some way to make the building more environmentally friendly.

A consequence of maintaining a Grade II listed building is we are limited in materials and approved suppliers. We have received some grant funding from Suez Communities Trust to start us on our way and will be launching a major fundraising campaign soon to enable us to complete the project.
