We have added fifty new books to Jesmond Library this week, including some lovely Junior books on a Christmas theme, and a range of new fiction, biographies, cookery and general non-fiction. Titles include: Michelle Obama’s autobiography “Becoming”, Stephen Hawking’s final book “Brief Answers to Big Questions”, new novels from Jeffrey Archer, Jodi Picoult, John Grisham Mari Hannah and Barbara Kingsolver;  a new collection of Philip Larkin’s letters and Jo Brand’s “Born Lippy”. I think all the titles will make for excellent reading for the whole family through December and beyond! .

All the new books we buy are chosen by a group of library volunteers who meet every couple of months. They scour the book reviews, identify gaps in our book stock as well as ordering suggestions from library users. We also like to link the books we buy into community events such as the monthly Wellbeing Sessions held at the Library – we have bought some books about healthy eating to link into January’s event. And we usually buy the Booker shortlist, new books about local history and love to support local authors!

If you would like to join our Book Selection Group or have any suggestions for new books, please let me know through the library email.
