Opportunity to participate in research about memory and thinking.

We’re looking for adults over the age of 50 to take part in our study Understanding Cognition in Adults in the North East of England (CANEE for short).

Who are we?

We’re a team of researchers at Newcastle University interested in increasing knowledge about memory and thinking, specifically with people from the North East.

Who can take part?

Anyone who…

  • Is aged 50 or over
  • Lives in the North East
  • Does not have a diagnosis of dementia or mild cognitive impairment

 What will taking part involve?

  • An in-person meeting with a member of our research team, lasting around one hour, in the Dame Maragret Barbour Building at Newcastle University
  • We would like to ask you some questions about yourself
  • Completion of some questionnaires and assessments of memory and thinking, including some computer-based tasks, with support from a member of the research team

What is the study about?

We want to collect information about how people who live in the North East perform on cognitive assessments (tests of memory, language and thinking). This is because people’s scores might change depending on factors like how long they attended school for or how old they are. This project aims to see if these factors apply to this area and if the assessments used by Universities and the NHS are specific enough to the people living here.

This study has been approved by the Faculty of Medical Sciences Ethics Committee.
