Thursday Talk – Was Dylan the Fifth Beatle?

Thursday September 17 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Paul initially dismissed Dylan’s songs as ‘folk crap’, while Dylan said that the Beatles made ‘bubble-gum music’ for Teenyboppers.  Soon however they were desperate to meet and famously got high together. Bob felt they showed where ‘the music had to go’, while Paul and John were enthralled by Dylan’s lyrical power. As their mutual admiration grew in the Sixties the competition between them increasingly aimed not only at chart success, but intellectual and cultural significance. Mike will discuss the evolution of this crucial relationship in the recognition of Popular Music as a major ‘Sixties’ art form.
