Past, Present, and Future: The Story of Jesmond Library

Saturday September 20 @ 4:45 pm - 6:30 pm

Join us for an engaging talk that traces Jesmond Library’s journey from its visionary design in the 1960s to its transformation into a thriving community-run space. We’ll explore rare archive findings from architect Harry Faulkner-Brown, view original drawings and the opening day pamphlet, and hear the remarkable story of how the community took over the building following council closure.

The talk will also look ahead to the library’s future, highlighting the ongoing energy retrofit project and efforts to enhance sustainability and comfort in this much-loved public space.

This event is part of our special Heritage Open Days exhibition, which runs all week and includes original drawings and the rarely seen physical model of the library – on loan from FaulknerBrowns Architects.

Speakers:
Despoina Papadopoulou, Architect Adviser, MAZi Architects
Chris Clarke, Trustee, Friends of Jesmond Library
