We have good news! From October the Library will be fully open. Please join us at the Library for the Grand Reopening event on Saturday 2nd October 2021 between 4.30 and 6.00 pm.

Our annual celebration takes on extra significance this year, being the first major event inside the building since the Library was forced to close its doors in March 2020.

However we are proud of the fact that despite successive lockdowns we continued to offer an ongoing library service throughout most of the last 18 months, while many of our normal events and group activities continued online.

But from Saturday 2nd October 2021 the library will return to normal activities with just a few necessary adjustments.

Revised opening hours

  • Tuesday 10 am – 4 pm
  • Thursday 12 midday – 6 pm
  • Saturday 10 am – 4 pm

For adults

Newspapers will again be provided. Comfortable seating will be reinstated. The drinks machine will be in operation offering coffee, teas and hot chocolate.

People’s Network Computers will be in use, with photocopying and printing services available.

Book borrowing, and the popular jigsaw swap-shop will of course continue.

For children

We have been welcoming family groups into the Children’s area for some months now, allowing browsing for books and jigsaws.

But now we will be reinstating many of the former favourites: tables and chairs, crayons and paper, car mats and toys.

Events and Groups

Keep an eye on the What’s On page  of our website, or follow us on Facebook and Twitter for news of upcoming Library events such as Thursday Evening Talks and other groups. Some will take place in the library, while others may continue online, or as a hybrid event.

The Information Area is already filling up with news of other local events.

Staying safe

We remain conscious of the need to keep both our library users and our volunteers safe. This will continue to mean hand sanitiser at the door; disinfectant wipes to clean desk areas after use; masks should please be worn when visiting the library (unless exempt); doors and windows to be kept open to ensure adequate ventilation (you may want to wear an extra jumper!).

Please bear in mind that we are entirely dependant on volunteers to stay open, and these few extra safeguards are to protect them and indeed all our users.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back into the room!
