This year’s choice of books

In the UK World Book Day is celebrated on the third Thursday in March. The charity behind it aims to ‘change lives through a love of books and shared reading’.

This year children will be able to use their £1 gift vouchers to choose from a range of books.

Inspiring a love of books and reading is an aim we share here at Jesmond Library. And although we cannot yet open our doors to welcome in readers young and old, we are still open to lend books. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between 2-4pm our volunteers are on site making ready the books pre-ordered, or dealing with enquiries at the door.

Choose books in advance from the library catalogue, or set us a challenge – we like those!

For example we have been asked to choose books for readers, everything from classic novels (‘the sort I had to read at school’) to crime (‘nothing too graphic’), from children’s board books (‘anything about trains’) to modern fiction (‘by women writers recommended by the Guardian’), from our large print section (‘historical novel but not a slushy romance’), or even just a lucky dip (‘something you think I might enjoy’).

Give it a try – maybe we can introduce you to a new author or genre, or unite you with an old favourite!
