Heritage Open Days, the national festival which celebrates architecture, history and culture will take place this year over 10 days from 13th – 22nd September.

This year the theme of the 25th anniversary of Heritage Open Days is ‘People Power’.

Jesmond Library will be taking part in local events as we show off our award winning Grade II listed building. The Library will be open for Heritage visitors to look around during normal opening hours Saturday 14th, Tuesday 17th, Thursday 19th and with extended hours on Saturday 21st September.

On Saturday 21st September at 5pm Chris Clarke will talk on “Jesmond Library: Community Transfer of a Heritage Asset”. Chris’ talk will cover both the development of the community library to date and also the particular responsibilities and challenges that the stewardship of such an important listed building have brought.

There will be a people’s heritage themed display focusing on various notable people who have been the subject of our ever popular Thursday Talks.
